Olathe is a city located in Johnson County, Kansas, United States. The area was first inhabited by the Shawnee and other Native American tribes before European settlers arrived in the early 19th century.

In 1857, the city of Olathe was founded by Dr. John T. Barton, who named it after the Shawnee word for “beautiful.” The city quickly became an important stop on the Santa Fe Trail, a major trade route between Missouri and New Mexico.

During the Civil War, Olathe was the site of several skirmishes and was occupied by Union troops. After the war, the city experienced a period of growth and development, with the establishment of businesses, schools, and churches.
